Phew! Doesn't time fly when you are enjoying yourself? It doesn't feel like one month since I sat composing, or trying to compose Newsletter No. 2 and here we are with Newsletter No. 3 already on the PC screen.
RNARS & RAFARS
In a previous Newsletter I have covered the subjects of cards received, cards sent and how they are recorded - (the earlier Newsletters are retained in the website archives, in case you have missed them). However what may not be common knowledge is that I am also the link to our sister Societies RNARS and RAFARS. I have introduced myself to both my counterparts and we have no doubt that the excellent relationship built up by Peter G3YOB (SK), Chris G2ABR and all other Bureau Managers before them will continue. As far as the working of the RSARS Bureau is concerned RNARS and RAFARS each as a whole are just two more bureau members and receive exactly the same treatment as individual RSARS members. However - when you have met and exchanged details with our RNARS/RAFARS friends I am sure that they will have given you their own Society membership number as I am sure you did? Cards for the other two Societies MUST indicate at least which Society it is for, plus - and this will assist that Society Bureau Manager - his membership number in that Society. I have received quite a few cards this month but unfortunately three were with numbers that have been confirmed as definitely not RSARS but as I am unable to check RNARS or RAFARS membership lists these cards are now routed 'back to sender'. I will not embarrass by naming, for they will know who they are when they receive the cards back. RSGB? The cards returned to sender, referred to above, might even have been meant for RSGB members and sent to me in error. I received a card during the month for an exchange made by one of our members with GBØCWS, the Caithness Walking Festival. I enjoy walking as much as the next man and whilst walking is akin to marching I suppose, I still do not send them cards from RSARS members CARD INACCURACY? I have received a couple of cards this month, one with one member's number, another member's name and a compilation of two call signs. I am not doing Mike GØSWY out of a chance to use his red pen, but in all honesty I could not decide which member the card was aimed at.Maybe it is worth double-checking in the log before sending - I do. If this is what the logbook says (yes I know we don't have to keep them - but I still do) the exchange of details was obviously totally incorrect. We work hard enough for points these days without throwing them away. GENERAL Well hasn't May been a great month for RSARS radio? I would be very surprised if anyone has not enjoyed the May Anniversary activity if they have taken part and I must, on behalf of competing members, thank those who came on air just to give a point to those actively hunting and I am sure their enthusiasm to assist was appreciated. One or two Overseas members have been worked in 9Y4, VE, VK, EA, CT, EI, 5B and others and I know from cards already received that many of us have worked new ones. I am already seeing the signs of this activity and I anticipate that the month of June will have our postman demanding a pay rise, or even wishing to take on a lad. Numbers of cards received and sent during May are as shown below. I have done comparisons with previous months and years which make "interesting" but not really surprising reading but you will have to hear those at the AGM or read them when the Minutes are published afterwards. Bureau activity May 2007
Members using the RSARS email system will already know - and it is repeated for those who do not - copies of the White List, showing members using the RSARS Bureau are now available for downloading from this website. Access via the link - item 17 of the Main Index - RSARS Members E-Library. It is hoped that this will reduce the frustration of receiving YOUR cards back from the Bureau as 'member NIB' (Not In Bureau). However currently I do have over 30 to return to members after replies have been received, or not, from intended recipients. Good Hunting. 73, Bryan MØOIC RSARS 3867 |
